Global Corporate and Investment Banking

Global Corporate and Investment Banking (GCIB) provides advice and services to large corporations, governments and institutions around the world. GCIB provides the firm’s clients with a broad range of services and products, including mergers and acquisitions and strategic advice, lending, access to debt and equity capital markets, treasury services and tailored risk management solutions. 

Global Corporate and Investment Banking is split into three areas:

  • Corporate Banking and Debt Capital Markets
  • Equity Capital Markets
  • Investment Banking

 

Corporate Banking and Debt Capital Markets

Bank of America Merrill Lynch has integrated its Corporate Banking and Debt Capital Markets businesses across EMEA. The role of the combined team is to manage client relationships, provide financial strategy advice and execute transactions across three key areas:

  • Capital raising (e.g. bonds, loans, acquisition finance, leasing)
  • Risk management (FX, rates, commodities, pensions) 
  • Treasury solutions including cash management and trade finance

 

The group works closely with the Investment Banking coverage teams, and covers a broad array of areas across financial markets, with a need to work on a range of complex solutions and with a diverse range of people across the bank to deliver for our clients. Given that many of the product areas are market dependent, the landscape is constantly evolving, which ensures a rewarding career experience. 


Overview
As an Analyst within Corporate Banking and Debit Capital Markets, you will:

  • Assist Corporate Banking and Debt Capital Markets professionals in relationship management, origination and execution across a diverse set of product areas
  • Support the team in the development of detailed corporate finance analysis, gaining exposure to a broad range of products including bonds, loans, leases, FX, rates and treasury solutions
  • Work on live transactions and interact with professionals from across the bank as you build your network and experience Gain an in-depth understanding of our clients, the industries in which they operate and how the bank helps support both their growth aspirations and day-to-day banking requirements
  • Develop a strong understanding of market fundamentals and be able to make informed contributions on a broad array of financing strategies that address client’s specific needs
  • Work closely with Investment Banking teams on client coverage and origination
  • Through our centralised intern staffing system you will gain exposure to the full suite of Corporate Banking and Debt Capital Markets products and have the opportunity to work on projects from start to finish, ensuring a holistic experience and a broad understanding of a range of financing solutions

 

Equity Capital Markets

Equity Capital Markets originates a wide variety of equity solutions for our clients. When a client decides to raise capital in the public or private markets, Corporate and Investment bankers turn to the Equity Capital Markets team. Equity Capital Markets partners with the coverage team and advises clients on optimal methods to access capital, whether for acquisitions, general financing or strengthening of balance sheets.

Equity Capital Markets originates, structures, and executes worldwide equity, equity-linked and equity derivatives products on behalf of the firm’s global corporate and institutional client base. The equity product suite includes initial public offerings, rights offerings, accelerated placements, convertible bonds, hedging structures, margin loans and structured purchases/disposals.


Overview

As an Analyst within Equity Capital Markets, you will:

  • Work as a product specialist alongside Investment Banking teams to create and deliver financing solutions through equity, equity-linked and/or derivative products to the company’s clients
  • Provide market-informed judgments on a broad array of financing strategies to address clients’ specific needs
  • Design highly tailored presentations for clients to outline solutions to their equity financing needs
  • Work on live transactions and interact with clients as you build your network and experience
  • Help generate ideas and opportunities for new and existing clients through in-depth research, financial modeling and industry analyses
  • Work with sales teams and traders in the Global Markets division and liaise with the Global Research division to stay informed on the latest market developments, as well as coordinate and manage live deal executions

 

Investment Banking

The Investment Banking division provides advice to CEOs, CFOs and Boards of Directors of our clients on strategic topics including mergers and acquisitions and capital structure. Our bankers also work closely with product specialists in Equity Capital Markets and Debt Capital Markets and Corporate Banking to originate and execute debt and equity financing and treasury solutions for our clients.

The Investment Banking division is organized across industry coverage, country/region, and product teams. Industry coverage teams include Consumer and Retail, Energy and Power, Financial Institutions, Financial Sponsors, Healthcare, Multi-Industries, Real Estate, Gaming and Leisure, and Telecoms, Media and Technology among others.  Product teams include Mergers and Acquisitions, Corporate Finance and Leveraged Finance.  Country teams include all regions in EMEA and are partially or fully based in regional offices.


Overview
As an Analyst within Investment Banking, you will:

  • Work on projects alongside bankers in specific industry, product and country coverage groups, providing you with a unique learning opportunity
  • Help the team deliver solutions to clients leveraging full spectrum of the bank's capabilities
  • Actively contribute to the preparation of client presentations and underlying financial analysis  
  • Build relationships, knowledge and experience that will open doors to a wide range of future career opportunities

Qualifications

  • Candidates are required to be a recent graduate or in their final year of study pursuing a degree from an accredited college or university
  • Applications are accepted from a diverse range of degree disciplines such as the arts and humanities, as well as numerically focused subjects such as economics and mathematics
  • Strong A-level grades and on track for a minimum 2:1 degree (or equivalent)
  • Fluency in English is essential for all roles. For some roles fluency in Russian, Arabic  or Mandarin is essential to support the Global Corporate and Investment Banking business area and the activities of the division and managing international client relationships
  • For some roles within Global Corporate and Investment Banking, a candidate should have a unique insight into the Sub Sahara Africa region with a benefit of active and on the ground experience and education so to advise clients on strategic topics including mergers and acquisitions and capital structure in this region
  • You'll need to demonstrate drive, innovation and a genuine interest in the financial markets
