Job Description & Programme Overview

At Bank of America our Global Capital Markets business comprises of our Debt Capital Markets (DCM), Equity Capital Markets (ECM) and Leveraged Finance (LevFin) businesses. Our Capital Markets Summer Analyst programme is designed to offer you a broad and exciting experience working within one of these Global Capital Markets teams, whilst still benefiting from exposure to and connectivity with the other groups throughout the Summer Analyst programme. Applicants will have the opportunity to indicate a preference between DCM, ECM or LevFin. Following the selection process, successful candidates could be placed within either one of the three Capital Markets teams.

Your training and development are our top priorities with extensive formal training offered at the start of the programme in addition to on-the-job support, educational speaker events and mentorship throughout.

As part of the Capital Markets Summer Analyst programme, you could expect to assist teams in capital markets deal origination and execution across a diverse range of clients and products. In all GCM teams, you will:

  • Work as a product specialist directly with our clients at top management level to create and deliver financing solutions
  • Develop a strong understanding of market fundamentals and be able to make market-informed contributions on a broad array of financing strategies that address clients' specific needs
  • Design highly tailored presentations for clients to outline solutions to their financing needs (such as general corporate financing and acquisition financing)
  • Work on live transactions and interact with clients and professionals from across the Bank as you build your network and experience
  • Work closely with Investment Banking and Corporate Banking teams on client coverage and origination, and with ESG Advisory & Financing Solutions colleagues on a broad array of ESG-related topics and advising on ESG financing solutions
  • Work with sales teams and traders in Global Markets to coordinate and manage live deal executions, and liaise with Global Research to stay informed on the latest market developments

Specifically, within each business you will:

Debt Capital Markets

  • Work on a large number of live transactions and benefit from direct exposure to clients throughout the execution process delivering financing solutions through DCM products including bonds, loans, capital products, liability management, FX and rates
  • Operate in a fast-paced environment, staying informed of macro developments in real-time and critically evaluating potential implications and opportunities for the clients you are supporting
  • Collaborate with Investment Banking and Corporate Banking teams, working on strategic client situations including M&A transactions, and assessing the suite of debt financing options for the client, including considering hedging solutions, liability management and credit rating implications
  • Gain exposure across the spectrum of EMEA client types that DCM supports, including investment grade corporates, financial institutions and Sovereign, Supranational and Agency issuers (SSA)

Equity Capital Markets

  • Assist with deal origination and execution across a range of transactions across industries / sectors, including private placements, IPOs, accelerated bookbuildings, rights issues, convertible bonds or derivatives
  • Develop a strong understanding of market fundamentals and learn how to structure, model, negotiate and manage complex and fast-paced financing processes
  • Work with Equity Sales teams, traders to provide our clients with differentiated content and stay informed on latest market developments in strong collaboration with the Investment Banking team
  • Work on a large number of live transactions and benefit from direct exposure to clients throughout the execution process delivering financing solutions through ECM products including equity, equity-linked and/or derivatives

Leveraged Finance

  • Assist with deal origination and execution across a range of transactions across industries/sectors, including Leveraged Buy-outs by private equity or strategic clients, re-financings of existing sub-investment grade issuers, and stressed & distressed re-capitalisations
  • Develop a strong understanding of market fundamentals and learn how to structure, model, negotiate and manage complex and fast-paced financing processes
  • Work on a large number of live transactions and benefit from direct exposure to clients throughout the execution process delivering financing solutions through Leveraged Finance products, including leveraged loans, high yield bonds and bridge loans
  • Potential to work with clients across sub-investment grade EMEA corporates (Dufry, ECI, VirginMedia/O2, Jaguar Land Rover as example) as well as top private equity firms such as Blackstone, CVC, EQT, KKR in relation to well-telegraphed acquisition financings such as Morrison, Twitter and Ceramtec

Qualifications

  • Candidates are required to be in their penultimate year of study pursuing a degree from an accredited college or university
  • Applications are accepted from a diverse range of degree disciplines such as the arts and humanities, as well as numerically focused subjects such as economics, mathematics, science and engineering
  • Fluency in English is essential for all roles and the local language is required for regional roles
  • Strong A-level grades and on track for a minimum 2:1 degree (or equivalent)
  • You'll need to demonstrate drive, innovation and a genuine interest in the financial markets
  • Teamwork, leadership and problem-solving skills, plus creativity are key qualities, as is the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, multi-task and interact with a variety of people
  • Displaying analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Influencing decisions and outcomes through effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrating integrity and ethics by earning other's trust and respect through consistent honesty and professionalism in all interactions
  • For some roles within EMEA's Emerging Markets, a knowledge of those regions is required so that support in the marketing of products, advising and coordinating the marketing effort to existing and potential investor base in the emerging markets region can be provided
