Job Description & Program Overview


Are you looking to change career? Or have you been taking a career break? If you have a keen desire to learn and progress in the financial services industry but thought the opportunity had passed you by then our Career Transition Apprentice Programme might be for you.

Our apprentice programme starts in September 2024, you will join one of our Global Technology teams in a full-time role whilst studying for a three-year Digital Technology Degree.

You’ll spend most of your time working alongside experienced colleagues, learning relevant and valuable skills, contributing to exciting projects whilst being exposed to cutting-edge technology and see first-hand how first-class organisations operate systems. For the remainder of your time, you’ll follow an established apprenticeship programme, graduating after three years with a Degree in Digital and Technology Solutions.

What you can expect


This role will be located with the Collateral Technology team, based in our Bromley office.

Global Collateral Technology supports Collateral Management Operations, via a number of applications to enable the day-to-day functions of their business processes across four lines of businesses – OTC Derivatives, Fixed Income, Futures & Options (Exchange Traded Derivatives) and Prime Brokerage.

The role will be dynamic, over time enabling you to participate as a Business Analyst in many projects and programs across the team.

Successful apprentices will continuously relate what they are learning with their work at Bank of America, as they progress through their degree programme. The apprenticeship will support you in developing in key elements of the role below:

(1) Data Gathering


  • Understanding a problem statement, a technology or business requirement
  • Build relationships throughout the organisation irrespective of location, and access systems to collate data
  • Establish a data quality process and apply it to the data to fill gaps and correct data points
  • Organise and store data so that it can be easily accessed and presented 

2) Data Analysis


  • Apply a process or framework to translate data into information for the purpose of solving problem statements or meeting a requirement
  • Critically reviewing information and clearly stating your assumptions
  • Apply information to support your technology solution proposal. Present your proposal to your stakeholders and obtain their sign-off 

(3) Testing and Delivery


  • Plan the implementation work. Identify the risks, issues and dependencies, and manage them during the course of the implementation
  • Produce mock-ups or prototypes
  • Provide regular and transparent updates on your progress for assigned deliverables. Demonstrate your work to stakeholders regularly. Escalation when further clarification is needed on requirements and where risks or issues are identified.
  • Devise test plans to verify developed software meets the agreed business requirements
  • Participate in software testing cycles. Document testing evidence to a level, which can be understood by project team members, Vendors and Auditors.
  • Deliver your solution within the agreed timeline and according to Change Management guidelines.
  • Comply with all rules, regulations and policies, and document your work

(4) Systems support


  • Investigate issues and see them through to resolution, liaising with internal Subject Matter Experts and external software vendors and keeping the business teams updated on progress. 

Essential and desired competencies

 

  • You are a good team player and collaborative. You will need to liaise with both technical and business colleagues locally in the UK and at other locations in Singapore, India, New Jersey and Chicago.
  • You should also be able to work independently. The role will require you to take information and translate into business requirements. You can demonstrate a sense of ownership and urgency to see issues through to resolution.
  • You are an enthusiastic learner who looks to develop new and existing technical skills. You will learn how to understand the existing business, document existing and future process flows, identify and prioritize the user requirement, highlighting any risks and issues.
  • You have good analytical skills which will be required to develop solutions for business requirements.
  • You can problem solve by using a variety of skills, both existing and those which can be learnt on the job.
  • You have good organizational skills and can handle multiple tasks at any one time and work to strict deadlines.
  • You are a good communicator and can work effectively with diverse groups of colleagues.
  • You have an innovative mindset. You are not afraid to ask why and have the ability to question established practices, with a view to continuous improvement.

 

A keen interest and understanding in the below would be beneficial:

  • Financial services
  • System analysis, design and issue resolution
  • Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
  • Service management within Technology



Requirements


  • Have at least a grade C or 5 in Maths and English Language GCSE (4 will not be accepted) or equivalent
  • Been a resident of the UK for the past 3 years
  • Have the right to work and remain in the UK indefinitely
  • Not completed a qualification or apprenticeship at the same level or higher which provided you with substantially the same skills or training as you would gain through this apprenticeship with Bank of America
