Job Description & Program Overview

The EMEA Special Situations & Distressed Trading desk within the Fixed Income, Currencies & Commodities (FICC) group at Bank of America (BofA) is seeking an off-cycle intern to support the team in a Trading Strategist role in Frankfurt for 3-6 months.

 

The group makes markets in various credit instruments for the benefit of BofA’s global client base and deploys capital in attractive risk-adjusted return opportunities.

 

The Trading Strategist role within the EMEA Special Situations & Distressed Trading desk involves performing investment analyst functions with an “investor mindset” and, as such, the team is looking for an individual with demonstrable interest in fundamental investing combined with an appetite to increase their understanding of investing concepts and deepen their experience within the investing universe.

 

As an intern you will support the team in:

  • Analysing new and existing investment opportunities across capital structures;
  • Developing and implementing investment ideas and trading strategies based on analyses conducted;
  • Presenting investment ideas clearly to both internal and external audiences;
  • Working closely with trading and sales colleagues to explain and advocate trading opportunities to the firm’s global client base.

 

The internship will provide a great opportunity to gain insight into the broad analytical approach applied by the team including investment research, fundamental and technical valuation, financial modelling, analysis of financial accounts, examining legal documentation, supervising external advisers, preparing deal documentation and structuring, and involvement in negotiations.

 

Qualifications

  • Candidates are required to be pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with a graduation timeframe between January 2023 and December 2023
  • On track for a minimum of a 2:1 degree classification (UK) or 2.0 (Germany) from a finance, business administration or economics related degree
  • Active interest in corporate finance, fixed income and value investing
  • Fluency in English. Additional plus would be a second European language
  • You'll need to demonstrate drive, innovation, with a keen interest in markets and macro economics
  • You should be well read, entrepreneurial, hard-working and gregarious. The key qualities of team work, leadership, creativity and problem solving skills are as essential as is the ability to work in a fast paced environment, multitask and interact with a variety of people
  • Ability to grasp a wide variety of products and to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ideally previous experience in corporate finance / investment banking / distressed investing / private debt / private equity
  • You'll need to demonstrate drive, innovation and a genuine interest in the financial markets
